The Brunhilde Chin Lunch Programme
No Child at Ardenne Should Be Hungry
Mrs. Brunhilde Chin – Distinguished Ardenne alumna, 2007 AAA Hall of Famer, and champion of student welfare
In Honour of a Champion
For more than three decades, the late Brunhilde Chin helped to ensure that no Ardenne student went without a meal. A distinguished Ardenne alumna, 2007 AAA Hall of Famer, and tireless champion of student welfare, Mrs. Chin gave devoted service to a cause she deeply believed in: that hunger should never stand between a child and their education. The Toronto Chapter of the Ardenne Alumni Association, which she served with such distinction, was the heartbeat of this effort for many years.
In honour of her legacy, the Ardenne Alumni Foundation is proud to relaunch the school lunch initiative as The Brunhilde Chin Lunch Programme. This programme calls on Ardennites in Jamaica and across the world to carry forward her spirit of care, compassion, and practical service.
The Need
No child at Ardenne should be hungry. The Lunch Programme was built on this simple but powerful conviction.
A hungry child cannot learn, concentrate, or reach their full potential, no matter how bright, determined, or deserving they may be.
The Lunch Programme was temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the need has grown. The school has advised the Foundation that the number of students unable to afford a cooked meal has been increasing year over year.
The Foundation has therefore resumed facilitation of the programme and is calling on alumni chapters, individual alumni, year groups, corporate partners, and friends of Ardenne to stand with us.
How the Programme Works
The Foundation works directly with Ardenne High School to support students identified as being in need of lunch assistance.
Students supported through the programme will receive a cooked meal and drink from the Ardenne canteen each school day, five days per week, for the school year.
Estimated cost: approximately JMD $1,000 / USD $7 per student per day.*
The Foundation manages funds received, disburses them directly to the school for the benefit of students approved for support, and reports transparently on the number of students assisted through the programme.
What Your Gift Can Do
Your donation makes an immediate and practical difference.
| Contribution | Impact |
| JMD $5,000 / USD $35* | Funds lunch for one student for one week |
| JMD $20,000 / USD $140* | Funds lunch for one student for one month |
| JMD $180,000 / USD $1,260* | Funds lunch for one student for the school year |
*USD amounts are approximate, based on the current exchange rate, and are subject to change.
No contribution is too small. Whether you give once or give regularly, your support helps ensure that a child at Ardenne can sit down to a proper meal and focus on learning.
Giving as an Alumni Chapter or Group
Alumni chapters, year groups, families, and other groups are invited to sponsor five or more students for the school year.
This is a powerful, visible, and measurable way to invest in the lives of Ardenne students, knowing that your collective generosity will provide daily lunch support for students identified through the school’s welfare process.
To discuss chapter or group sponsorship, please contact the Foundation.
Individual Giving
Individual contributions of any amount are warmly welcomed.
Gifts from individual donors will be pooled and used to support as many students as possible. Donors will receive updates showing the number of students supported through the general programme pool.

A Legacy Worth Carrying
Brunhilde Chin gave more than thirty years to this cause. She did not do it for recognition. She did it because she believed that every child at Ardenne deserved to learn on a full stomach.
That belief is now ours to honour and to act on.
